Rock! Foo Fighters & Weezer Gig
Oakland Arena 28th October 2005I’m not going to go into much detail about Hot Hot Heat because quite frankly it’s not worth it. I liked their sound but I was about a million miles from impressed. Was it the microphone control or was it the sound desk that led to a complete failure to hear the lead singer? All I know is Weezer and Foo’s were more than capable of being heard.
I have known the tones of the Foo’s for much longer than that of Weezer. This didn’t stop me enjoying Weezer; it just prevented my experience from going to the next level. It did with the Foo’s. But I’m going to have to give the Foo’s a bit more credit any way because their sound felt a bit more developed than Weezer. Don’t’ get me wrong Weezer rocker. Any way enough pathetic semi-music-techno-babble.
Highlights;
Weezer
The mid audience/arena solo acoustic – save for the scarlet lady who insisted on dancing with Rivers. Thanks for detracting from the performance lady. Rivers superior guitar skills! ROCK! I had no idea he was so god like. The ‘someone from the audience to play acoustic’, Billy-Bob – who turned out to be Dave Ghrol (Foo’s). And of course the multi drummer finale.
Foo Fighters
So much, so good. Seriously. This band are gods. Dave is a super star and a nice guy at the same time – even if he did dis England. But we know he playfully disses who he loves. Just the right enough banter and story telling mate. The highlights for me were Chris Vs. Dave battle of the guitar solo’s. Chris on Stage and Dave mid Arena – where the seats met the court. Build up, crescendo, lovely. Then a crowd run back to the stage for Dave. Bearing in mind this was all mid-Stacked Actors. Flipping brilliant. Taylor’s cold day in the sun with Dave on drums – Weezer also did some role swapping – lovely. So much faboo Foo back catalog action, so little time. Times Like These, Everlong. Just some of the top tunes. But closing on Monkey Wrench, guys. Talk about hitting the spot. You really did rock my socks off ( Well that’s enough Foo worshiping for now.
Personal fav highlight (apart from sharing this with Marisa – soppy git): The video Clips from V Festival 2003 that Ian, Couso (and more) rocked our socks off too in Kent, England. I think it was during times like these, I’m wishing it was ‘cos that ads a nice nostalgic touch (unplug the past, unplug the future and plug both power cords into the present).
The concert was fantastic, a real gem. Worth every penny – especially considering it was free ;) well, a birthday pressie – Thanks honey ( Check out the sneaky photo action below.
